2014 Mizuno JPX-EZ Fairway Wood Review

2014 Mizuno JPX-EZ Fairway Wood Review

New Mizuno JPX-EZ Fairway Wood: $199.99

Similar to the JPX-EZ Driver, Mizuno’s 2014 line of fairway woods blend sleek, attractive style with no-frills playability. Aimed at moderately skilled to better players, these woods measure up to the competitors like TaylorMade, Nike and other established industry brands.

Although some are committed to their longtime fairway wood or special hybrid that never leaves the bag, it’s worth giving the Mizuno JPX-EZ series a try. You just might be surprised.

And at the price, you can save a little change as well.

Technology (90 percent)

With a stainless steel body, thin 1770 Maraging steel face and low center of gravity (CG), the Mizuno JPX-EZ Fairway Woods offer forgiveness and a high launch from the tee that makes you think you’re playing a driver. The large profile (192cc’s) enhances confidence at address. The club also features a Flex Face Design, which is said to promote a trampoline effect for greater distance.

From the turf, the elongated back allows you to get enough clubface on the ball to make clean contact and get the ball into the air.

Looks (100 percent)

I love the all-black finish on these clubs. When lining up to the ball, the contrast is appealing to the eye and adds another element of confidence.

Performance (85 percent)

Off the tee, this club rivaled the distance I achieve with my Titleist 913F. It sounded great (not tinny like some fairway woods). I also felt that I could control the launch and trajectory without having to compromise my swing.

No matter where you strike the ball, whether high or low off the face, the Mizuno JPX-EZ Fairway Wood series consistently provides generous distance.

Final Thoughts (overall rating of 90 percent)

I’ve always been a fan of Mizuno’s irons, but now I’m a convert to its woods. Combining elegant looks with intelligent design, the JPX-EZ Fairway Woods line offer players of varying skill levels confidence from the tee or turf.

Although some are committed to their longtime fairway wood or special hybrid that never leaves the bag, it’s worth giving the Mizuno JPX-EZ series a try. You just might be surprised.
