2014 TaylorMade Tour Preferred MB Steel Irons:  $687.50 (five-piece set) to $1099.99 (eight-piece set)

A TaylorMade Tour Preferred MB Steel Iron is a big boy’s club.

An extremely traditional yet sexy looking iron is complemented by unlimited performance… This iron might be the coolest iron I have ever seen.

With maximum workability and minimum forgiveness, these irons will appeal to a select few. This is the muscle-back (MB) iron you will see a lot on the PGA Tour — but not in your everyday country club golf bags.

Technology (7 out of 10 stars)

Just like most of the other traditional blades, the TaylorMade Tour Preferred MB Irons have a minimal amount of technology. What separates the Tour Preferred MB Irons from other blades is the reduced-sole camber inspired by the tour pros along with the smooth transition from the top line to the hosel.

When great players are attracted to a forged blade, the turf interaction and look are the two most important parts of the club.

Look (9 out of 10 stars)

This iron might be the coolest iron I have ever seen. It has a little darker finish than most satin-forged blades, creating a sexy look. A thin top line and minimal offset will appeal to the game of  most traditional players.

Performance (9 out of 10 stars)

When struck solidly, this iron is crazy soft and absolutely unbeatable. However, just the opposite is the case when our game is not at its highest. During the product testing, this iron can perform in all situations. In a 15 mph left to right cross wind, the TaylorMade Tour Preferred MB Irons performed at the highest level. I was able to shape the ball left to right, right to left, high and low on call.

This iron was built for great players in tough conditions.

Final Thoughts (overall rating: 8.33 out of 10 stars)

The TaylorMade Tour Preferred MB Iron is a rock star when hit solidly. Basically, TaylorMade went back to the basics when building this tour-inspired iron. An extremely traditional yet sexy looking iron is complimented by unlimited performance.
