Titleist released the 2014 714 Cavity Back (CB) Forged Irons geared toward a low-handicap player looking for feel and superior control of the distance, direction and trajectory of the golf ball. High-skill golfers will enjoy similar playability to the new Titleist 714 (Muscleback) MB Forged Irons and enhanced feel compared the other irons such as the Titleist AP1 and AP2 irons.

Overall, the new 2014 Titleist 714 CB Forged Irons set is outstanding iron and rates exceptional for the low-handicap player.

Technology (9 out of 10)

The Titleist 714 CB Forged Irons set is a blade-designed club with 1025 carbon steel and a progressive offset for maximum workability. The new Titleist 714 CB Forged Irons set also features a shallow cavity back design with a unique inner-cavity muscle placed behind the impact area with a precise center of gravity (CG) and enhanced feel.

The tech here clearly is impressive.

Looks (10 out of 10)

The Titleist 714 CB Forged Irons set looks great with a small blade clubhead design that appeals should appeal to high-skill ball strikers. Titleist uses its standard chrome finish on the clubhead, too. Although it has a relatively small cavity, the club still instills confidence and looks very similar to the Titleist MB Forged at address. The Titleist CB Forged Irons is one of the best looking iron sets on the market today.

The new 2014 Titleist 714 CB Irons set looks as good as it plays, which is exceptional, says 2nd Swing Golf's reviewer.

Performance (10 out of 10)

I tested the Titleist 714 CB Forged Irons with a True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 shaft. Although the Titleist 714 CB Irons set is similar to the 714 MBs, it feels much easier to hit. The slightly thicker topline and larger sole make the club much more forgiving. However, the Titleist 714 CB Forged Irons still offers the playability of the same manufacturer’s 714 MB Forged Irons.

But the Titleist 714 CB Forged Irons set is ideal for the player who prefers to control the distance, direction and trajectory of the golf ball. The distance remains similar to that found in the 714 MB Forged Irons and incorporates the same lofts, however, players might get a little extra yardage on off-center shots here.

Ball flight is generally a mid-trajectory and slightly higher with the CBs as opposed to the MBs. In addition, the Titleist 714 CB Forged Irons perform and feel outstanding around the greens. Skilled ball strikers will enjoy how workable the 714 CB Forged Irons perform.

Most importantly, the new Titleist 714 CB Irons set feels amazing at impact and are a little friendlier than the MB Forged on a miss-hit.

The 714 CB Irons set provides exceptional feedback on any shot, and you instantly know where you strike the ball on the clubface. I was actually surprised how forgiving the cavity back performed on off-center hits. In addition, I enjoyed the heavy feel of the irons with a D2 swing weight. The Titleist 714 CB Forged Irons set simply and elegantly performs great.

The new 2014 Titleist 714 CB Irons set is excellent all-around, says 2nd Swing Golf's reviewer.

Final Thoughts (Overall: 9.8 out of 10)

Elite players should absolutely love the Titleist 714 CB Forged Irons.  While the Titleist MB Forged Irons set is one of the best-looking irons available, the Titleist 714 CB Forged Irons set is nearly identical at address and is much easier to find the sweet spot.

The price point also is directly in line with the competition at about $1,000 for a set of eight irons. Overall, the 714 CB Forged Irons set is surprisingly easy to hit for a better player. In fact, many players might prefer Titleist’s new cavity backs over its musclebacks. Personally, if I was purchasing a set, I would seriously consider the 714 CBs over the 714 MBs. Or I might combine the long and mid-range irons in the 714 CB Irons set with the short irons in the 714 MBs.

Overall, the new 2014 Titleist 714 CB Forged Irons set is outstanding iron and rates exceptional for the low-handicap player.
