Webb Simpson, 26, is the 9th consecutive U.S. Open winner who has never won a previous major. Leading into round four from the previous day Graeme McDowell and Jim Furyk played well and held the lead between them much of the day, until the end.

Jim Furyk bogeyed 2 of the 3 last holes, including the tragic display on the 18th. Graeme McDowell, after being the first in the clubhouse the previous day with the leading -1, misses the birdie putt on 18 to force a playoff. Webb Simpson emerges victorious, while watching from inside the clubhouse, following a solid day of golf with an impressive birdie on hole 10 par4 (with a good-fortuned bounce off the rightside green and a roll toward the hole) and a great chip from rightside green on 18, which was a very tough lie, coming in from above the hole.  Here’s what Webb has got in the bag…
