Check out the top-10 golfers on 2nd Swing Golf Blog each week.

The Wells Fargo Championship at the Quail Hallow Club in Charlotte, N.C., where the purse was almost $7 million, had little to no impact on the top-10 WGR, except for Phil Mickelson’s sixth-place showing allowing him to trade spots with Sergio Garcia at No. 8 and 9, respectively.

But it’s a new week and another bigger tourney as we get closer to the US Open. Starting today is THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass, which actually is owned by the PGA Tour. Sawgrass also is considered one of the world’s best courses and the tournament’s permanent home since 1982.

The stakes keep getting higher too as the season progresses with a $10 million purse for the event in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., which is expected to draw the first full field since the Masters almost a month ago.

From left to right is the 16th and 17th greens and then 18th tee at TPC Sawgrass, where THE PLAYERS Championship is this week.

The only ranking’s change this week — yes, Tiger Woods is still No. 1. However, Woods, the defending champ at Sawgrass is still out after back surgery.

Other than that, the rest PGA Tour again didn’t budge. Adam Scott and Henrik Stenson still round out the other top-3 spots, respectively, with Masters Champ Bubba Watson in fourth, and so on.
